General Online Financial Aid Resources

Student Aid on the Web 
Federal Student Aid, an office of the U.S. Department of Education, administers programs that comprise the nation's largest source of student aid.  This office is responsible for developing, distributing and processing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Ed Pubs
U.S. Department of Education publications can be identified and ordered through the Ed Pubs site.  All publications are provided free of charge to the general public. Students and parents can order single copies of hard copy publications.

Federal Loan Programs

Federal Perkins Loans - This program provides low-interest loans to help needy students finance the costs of postsecondary education.

Direct Stafford Loans - English | Spanish
Direct Stafford Loans are low-interest loans for eligible students to help cover the cost of higher education at a four-year college or university, community college or trade, career or technical school.  Eligible students borrow directly from the U.S. Department of Education at participating schools.

PLUS Loans for Parents - English | Spanish
Parents of dependent students may apply for a Direct PLUS Loan to help pay their child's education expenses as long as eligibility requirements are met.  Graduate and professional students may apply for PLUS Loans for their own expenses.

Federal Grant Programs

Federal Pell Grant Program - Provides need-based grants to low-income graduate and certain postbaccalaureate students to promote access to postsecondary education.  Grant amounts are dependent on student's expected family contribution, cost of attendance, enrollment status, and attendance during an academic year.

Federal Supplemental Education Educational Opportunity Grants (FSEOG) - This program provides need-based grants to low-income undergratuate students to promote access to postsecondary education.  Priority is given to those students with "exceptional need", and those who are also Federal Pell Grant recipients.


NM Dept of Higher Education

NM Dept of Higher Education - The Financial Aid Division makes programs, including Legislative Lottery Scholarships, grants, loans and work-study opportunities, available to students in New Mexico.  For general Financial Aid Division inquiries -  call (800) 279-9777.
