News and Updates

Watch this space for alerts and announcements as the 2014 tax filing season gets underway.

Due to the 16-day Federal government shutdown in October, the start of the 2014 tax filing season will be delayed.  The 2014 filing season begins on January 31, 2014. This is the date that tax filings will be accepted for processing. The deadline for filing tax returns remains Tuesday, April 15, 2014.

► The Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) requirements have changed.  See more information about the EITC changes on the IRS website.  The IRS also provides a tool to determine if you qualify for the EITC for tax year 2013 (filing in 2014) in English and Spanish

IRS Tax Tips Available:  The Internal Revenue Service will make available a special series of daily Tax Tips beginning Jan. 28 to help people prepare their tax returns.  More than 60 IRS Tax Tips will be available through a free email subscription or by visiting IRS.gov. The tips, one available each business day through the April 15 tax deadline, offer single-topic briefs on tax topics affecting millions of people.

Per the IRS, the easy-to-read tips cover a wide range of topics to help people with the 2014 filing season. Many tips offer information on money-saving tax credits and deductions that can be easy to overlook and could affect your refund.  Find more information on the IRS website.

Keep in mind:  The IRS and the New Mexico Department of Taxation and Revenue no longer mail forms to individuals.

NM State tax forms and instructions are again available in a single booklet this year - the PIT Packet.
