The Tony Hillerman Library (formerly the Wyoming Library) is located behind the Hoffmantown Shopping Center at the intersection of Wyoming Blvd and Menaul Blvd. on Apache Street NE. It is on a separate, irregularly shaped block with beautiful public rose gardens on each end adjoining the parking lots.

By Car

Freeway directions:
Take I-40 to the Wyoming exit and drive north on Wyoming Blvd. Look for the Wendy's Restaurant on the left side of the street just before Menual Blvd. Follow the surface street directions.

Surface Street Directions heading South on Wyoming Blvd:
Cross Menual and turn right at the Wendy's Restaurant onto Apache Street.

Surface Street Directions heading North on Wyoming Blvd:
Watch for the Wendy’s on your left as you approach Menaul Blvd. Turn Left at the Wendy’s onto Apache St.

Surface Street Directions heading West on Menaul Blvd:
Turn left on Wyoming Blvd. Look for the Wendy’s on your right side and make a right turn onto Apache.

Surface Street Directions heading East on Menaul Blvd:
Go three blocks east of Pennsylvania. Turn right into Inez Street at the western entrance to the Hoffmantown Shopping Center. Go one block south on Inez and you will see the library parking lot.

Study Rooms

Tony Hillerman has two small study rooms that will hold a maximum of three people. The study rooms may be reserved (call 291-6264) up to one week in advance for no more than two hours per person/group a day. Check in at the Information Desk with your library card to gain access to the study room.

Fiction To Go  We are a Fiction to Go location! What is Fiction to Go? The Friends for the Public Library sells slightly used, recently published fiction titles for $2 for hardbacks and $1 for paperbacks. Like all funds that our Friends receive, all proceeds from Fiction to Go sales benefit the Albuquerque Bernalillo County Libraries!

Preschool Storytime    families
Join in the fun with stories, songs, puppets and more that encourage development of early literacy skills in young children, using the guidelines from the Every Child Ready to Read program. Weekly Preschool Storytime targeted for ages 3 - 5.

Music & Movement Storytime    families
These storytimes are a fun way to develop early literacy skills in young children with music, dancing, singing, stories and exploration of simple musical concepts. Music & Movement Storytime is appropriate for ages 0 - 6.

Read to the Dogs    children
Reading to appreciative and non-judgmental furry friends helps to increase kids' confidence and joy of reading. Weekly on Wednesdays and one Saturday a month. See more information about Read to the Dogs.

Lego Adventures    ages 5 and up
Leave your Legos at home and come play with ours, on the first Saturday of the month. If you can dream it, you can build it. Beginners welcome!

Origami Adventures    ages 5 and up
Each month learn to create several different folded paper designs, on the second Saturday of the month. Beginners welcome.

Poetry Around the World    ages 10 and up
In this writing class we explore a different style of poetry from around the world each month. If you think poetry is dull and boring, give us a chance to change your mind.

Hillerman Stitch Club    adults
A drop-in stitching club for good times, good conversation and helpful knitting hints. Bring your projects to share to our weekly meeting.

Master Gardeners    all ages
The Albuquerque Area Extension Master Gardeners will visit the library twice a month during the growing season to answer your questions about gardening in Albuquerque.  The Master Gardener hotline is available every day from 9:30 am to 2:30 pm: 292-7144 or 243-1386.

Steampunk Crafts    ages 12 and up
Join us for crafts inspired by the neo-Victorian sci-fi genre called Steampunk. Registration is required for this every other month program.

Tony Hillerman Tribute

Tony HillermanTony Hillerman (1925–2008), an Albuquerque, New Mexico, resident since 1963, was the author of 29 books, including the popular 18-book mystery series featuring Navajo police officers Jim Chee and Joe Leaphorn, two non-series novels, two children’s books, and nonfiction works. The former Wyoming Branch Library was renamed in honor of Tony Hillerman in 2008.
